So, what is Personal Branding exactly?

Well, it’s Branding – but it’s performed on an individual, and on a “personal” level.

I know, that doesn’t really help you, so let me expand on that a bit.

Personal Branding describes the process by which individuals differentiate themselves by identifying and articulating their unique value proposition (brand promise) in order to achieve a specific goal.

That being said, people are brands – just like we highlighted the personal brands of Lady Gaga, Howard Stern and Oprah Winfrey – and since people are brands, they can be marketed as such.

Personal Branding requires figuring out who you really are (your skills, values, passions and personality), who you want to serve (your target market or audience), and how you differ from the competition (your unique promise of value).

A successful Personal Brand creates a consistent, targeted impression that helps you achieve BOTH your personal and professional goals. And it also allows you to live and work authentically, since a successful brand can’t be faked.

After all, Personal Branding is about who you are and what you stand for.

And it’s about blending who you are (the personal) and what you do (the professional).

It’s as simple as that.

Your Personal Brand is what separates you from everyone else in the world – and your Personal Brand is the thing that helps you stand out from the competition.
